Restoration of our Pews

Dear Parishioner,
The heart of St Mark’s Parish has always been its parishioners, who have been actively caring for our Church for the past 130 years. Over the past 10 years, your ongoing contributions have been generous with our key success being the building of a new Presbytery and Parish Pastoral Centre where community meetings and gatherings take place daily and our mission and ministry continues.

On any given Sunday, an average of 420 parishioners celebrate Mass with their families. As we have commemorate 130 years since our first Mass at St Mark’s. We currently celebrate nine Masses each week, and last year we welcomed over 350 families into our Sacramental programs.
Across our Youth and Young Adult Program, we have over 60 members and our Catechists teach to over 160 students at Drummoyne Public School. Our Parish employs one full time and three casual staff to assist the Parish Priest and Priest in Residence, making our Parish volunteers instrumental in our community.

The time has now come for us to restore the interior of the Church, which is run-down and tired. In order for this restoration to take place, we respectfully request your assistance. The Parish Finance Committee, together with our Parish Pastoral Council, will at Masses over the coming weeks provide you with specific details on what refurbishments the Church will need to undertake, with estimate costs and time-frame. Our restoration program will be aimed at installing new flooring and refurbishment of pews and updating the entrance area. We would also like to install a heating and cooling system, however, this will be dependent on your commitment and ongoing contribution. What better way to honour those who have in the past worshiped, built and grown this Church, which looks back in pride on its past, but is not afraid to look to the future? Parishioners around the world have so many connections to St Mark’s Parish – many parishioners were baptised at St Mark’s and received their Sacraments here, others have married here, others again have family connections going back many generations, and of course there are those who pray and worship here every week. Each and every one of you form the foundation of our vibrant Parish community.

The restoration to be undertaken is a testament to the allegiance of the present Committees – their deep faith, great courage and generous spirit to come together to plan, execute and donate their time. If you would like to be associated with the work of making our Church a safe place of worship and to meet the needs of this 21st century, we would be grateful if you could please consider the refurbishment work to be undertaken and generously contribute. Without your commitment and ongoing contributions, we are unable to build a clear plan to refurbish our Church for our future generations.
