School Profile
St Mark’s is a Catholic systemic primary school catering for children from Kindergarten to Year 6,
situated within the Inner Western Region of the Archdiocese of Sydney.
From the time of its foundation in 1889 as a Parish School, St Mark’s has promoted the Christian
values that prompted its establishment.
The school aims to provide a learning environment that is stimulating, appropriate and in line with
current educational practices, while at the same time maintaining the best from the past.
The school opened in June 1889 with two lay teachers. The Good Samaritan Sisters (1895-Easter
1900), the Sisters of St. Joseph (1900-1947) and the Presentation Sisters (1948-1993) have staffed the school. The first lay Principal was appointed in 1994.
From the time of its establishment, the school has emerged as a vibrant Catholic school
catering to the diverse needs of the many children who are part of the St. Mark’s Parish Family.
In
2005 the school had an enrolment of 308 students, catered for across 13 classes.
Classroom
teachers are currently supported by a part-time teacher librarian, reading recovery teacher, special
education teacher, special education aide, visual arts teacher, physical education teacher, music
