Become Catholic

(A parishioner's experience ....) I have done both!!! My husband, Michael is Catholic and we decided to raise our children Catholic. However, it was not until our son, James, started school and I got involved in the St Mark’s School and Parish community that I came to understand and respect the values of the Catholic religion, so much so that I became a Catholic in 2006. It was a wonderful ‘journey’ and I learnt so much from it. It was not scary or intimidating as I thought it would be. The other candidates were people like me and the RCIA Team is filled with a group of lovely, supportive people and I have developed some special friendships along the way. It was a great opportunity for me to ask many questions and find many answers.
Then in 2007 I was asked to be a sponsor. I was hesitant about this, as I still had my ‘L’ plates on. However, I was assured that I didn’t need to be an expert on Catholicism. It was just nice to be a support to someone who is becoming a Catholic. Being a sponsor only re-iterated everything I learned the first time around and again, I got so much out of it.
So if you would like to learn more about becoming a Catholic or being a Sponsor, please contact Mary Cook at the Presbytery on 9181 1795. Kind regards, Rachel White—St Mark’s Parishioner |
